Barbour picked for NCAA committee; Parsons on Hard Knocks, more: Newsstand

Hard Knocks is back, Penn State single game tickets are not cheap, especially for the top home games of the year, and Sandy Barbour has been named to a new NCAA committee.

Those headlines lead the daily newsstand for Aug. 11, but we'll also look at some other tweets and stories from around Penn State and the college football world.

Tweets of the day

The NCAA has formed a constitutional committee "to propose ideas to reshape college sports," and Penn State Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Sandy Barbour is one of 23 people selected to be on it.

"Each of the appointees offers important insight on the transformation that's needed for the future," NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a released statement.

"The time is now for substantive change. And future change must focus on serving student-athletes."

Besides her duties at Penn State, Barbour was also on the Big Ten's return to play committee last year.

"Hard Knocks," the award-winning HBO program that goes behind the scenes of an NFL training camp, is in Dallas this year, which means Cowboys' first-round pick Micah Parsons will be getting plenty of camera time prior to his first regular season game.

Here are some clips that have been passed around social media from the season debut on Tuesday night.

On the recruiting front, Class of 2023 Georgia linebacker Raylen Wilson put Penn State in his top-12, while Class of 2022 receiver Andre Greene Jr. shared photos from a visit to State College earlier this summer.

Former Penn State and Mississippi State quarterback Tommy Stevens has been waived by the New York Giants about a week after they signed him to be a tight end.

Quote of the day

"Our depth is amazing. We got guys that could play throughout the whole room.

"We upgraded our room by a lot from last year, brought in new guys, and guys that have played, so I feel like just the competition in our room, in general, is great, and just heading into the season, it's gonna be amazing to see."

--Penn State's Joey Porter Jr., to BWI about the program's depth at corner in 2021.
