PSU wrestler to play football; Lions No. 17 in new poll, more: Newsstand

Penn State is now in the hours and minutes countdown to summer camp, which kicks off on Friday.

The Lions will have one extra player at their disposal, according to a report, when practices begin, and CBS Sports has a new preseason top-25 out that helps set the expectations for head coach James Franklin's bunch entering the 2021 season.

Here's a look at the top headlines and tweets about the Penn State Nittany Lions and around the college football world for Aug. 3.

Tweets of the day

According to his Instagram page and reporting by Paul Meadors of Clovis Sports Report in California, Seth Nevills, who came to Penn State as a member of Cael Sanderson's wrestling program, will walk on to the school's football team.

Nevills had a successful 2020 season before an injury ended his time at the Big Ten tournament just days before the coronavirus pandemic would shut the rest of the sports world down, as well. In 2021, he went 4-1 at heavyweight. It's not clear whether or not he will return to the mat after football season.

Two former Nittany Lions will have a 90 overall ranking in the Madden 2021 video game: Saquon Barkley and Allen Robinson.

Five-star Ohio State quarterback recruit Quinn Ewers is officially enrolled with the Buckeyes a year earlier than expected because he can't play Texas high school football and also profit off his name, image, and likeness.

We'll close this section with an Olympic wrestling note: Draw info is out for the first three NLWC members who will compete in Toyko. They'll be on the mat either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning eastern time.

Quote of the day

'He needs to play opening day. You have to trust what your eyes are telling you. And when I watch him, I see a fluid and explosive player. This game’s not too big for him. Some guys run 4.3. Some guys play 4.3. He’s the kind of guy who plays fast. He looks like he’s done this at this level before.”

--Cowboys' coach Mike McCarthy to NBC's Peter King about rookie linebacker Micah Parsons.
