Penn State hosted one of North Carolina’s top up-and-coming prospects this past weekend in wide receiver Michael Wyman.

Already listed at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Wyman has earned the attention of multiple schools across the region. So far, he holds two scholarship offers from in-state programs Duke and North Carolina, but that’s expected to grow this coming winter and spring, once schools are able to review his sophomore season film.

“The visit was outstanding,” Wyman said, referring to Penn State. “This was my first visit at Penn State. The facilities are nice, the coaches are great and I got to talk to one of the players that I got to play with last year (Brelin Faison-Walden).

“But what stood out to me the most was seeing so many fans and getting to meet the head football coach in the middle of the football field during warm-ups.”

When asked about his talks with Faison-Walden, Wyman said, “We just talked about how different high school football is to college football, plus what it’s like academically,” said Wyman. “He said everything is easy if you just work hard and go 100 percent everyday, especially with academics because football will always be there.”

Wyman may have already knew Fairson-Walden, but this was his first opportunity to really get to know wide receiver coach Josh Gattis.

“I talked to the wide receiver coach, Coach Gattis. We talked about what I wanted to major in, my grades and high school football. He used to play football in North Carolina. I like the fact that he’s from North Carolina and he can relate where I come from.”

So far, Wyman has also been able to visit Clemson, Kentucky, North Carolina, N.C. State, Ohio State, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. This season, he recorded 16 receptions for 431 yards and five touchdowns.
