Tabbs talks PSU offer

The Penn State men’s basketball program played host to dozens of high-end high school hoops talent this past weekend during its Elite Camp on campus.

Among those who stood out to the Nittany Lion coaching staff, ultimately earning a verbal scholarship offer, was Class of 2018 guard Wynston Tabbs out of St. Mary’s Ryken in Leonardtown, Md. The 6-foot-3 prospect consistently made his way to the basket, doing what he notes is the best part of his game.

“I did pretty good. I attacked the basket pretty strong. Dished it out to my 3-point shooters, knocked it down, we got the job done,” he said. “I attacked the rim very aggressively. That’s what I do. That’s my thing.”

Having made his mark on the camp in games both Saturday and Sunday, Tabbs left campus Sunday afternoon with his first verbal scholarship offer from a high-major school when the Nittany Lions extended the opportunity.

In contact with St. Joe’s, George Washington, and George Mason, Tabbs also has offers from Towson, St. Louis and UNC-Greensboro in addition to his latest from the Nittany Lions.

Saying that he’d like to take the recruiting process slowly as he finds the perfect fit, Tabbs walked away from Penn State impressed by the campus and the program’s facilities, noting that he’s likely to make a return trip for next summer’s camp as well.

In the meantime, Tabbs intends to continue working on his game, positively reinforced by the offer from Penn State.

“I’m very excited,” he said. “It feels pretty good knowing that my work is actually paying off. Long days in the gym, two workouts a day, it’s paying off.”
