Rivals250 quarterback Taisun Phommachanh hit the road over the weekend and spent his time in the Palmetto State. South Carolina and Clemson hosted the Avon (Conn.) Avon Old Farms star and it sounds like both schools made a huge impression. Phommachanh also spoke about his new offer from LSU and when he could be announcing a short list.

IN HIS OWN WORDS…

“I was at South Carolina for my first time on Thursday,” Phommachanh said. “It was more like a city because it’s right there in Columbia and there is a lot going on but it was good. I liked how everybody is walking around there and the coaches and players were really cool. I talked to mainly the offensive coaches like coach Werner, coach Muschamp, and the offensive coordinator. We talked about football, off-the-field stuff, and everything about South Carolina. They said they are going to be throwing the ball a lot so we also watched a lot of film. I think I could do pretty well in that offense. It was definitely one of the better visits. The coaches showed me and my family a good time.

“Getting the offer from Clemson means a lot of because as a kid you always wanted to play for a team like that,” he said. “I think I’d fit in really well in that offense. The offense is kind of like what I run now so I’m basically doing the same thing. That school is like a big family so everybody was really welcoming. We talked about football, off-the-field stuff, and everything about Clemson. I would fit in well there.

“LSU might be one of the schools we visit,” said Phommachanh. “That was big, getting the offer. I’ve always liked LSU so it was great getting that offer.

"I don’t have a short list yet but I think I’ll end up making one pretty soon,” he said. “It’ll probably be after the visits to Florida and Florida State on March 20th and 21st. All of the schools are recruiting me really hard but Florida State, UConn, Penn State, Florida, and Clemson are doing it more than the others.”

RIVALS’ REACTION…

South Carolina and Clemson were two schools Phommachanh was really excited about seeing and it seems like he enjoyed his time at both. The Tigers look poised to be more of a contender in the long run but the race for Phommachanh is crowded at the top. His visits to Florida and Florida State net week will be very important and the Nittany Lions will be stiff competition.
