Fresh off a five-year stint at Georgia State University, most recently as its defensive backs/special teams coach, then ultimately the defensive coordinator last season, Midget was hired at Marshall in January.
As a player at Virginia Tech, Midget was an All-American defensive back and was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons, according to the Georgia State University athletics Web site.
In addition to his brief stint at Marshall and five seasons at Georgia State, Midget's coaching career includes graduate assistant work at Virginia Tech and five seasons at Lake Worth High School in Florida.
Penn State has yet to comment on the reported hiring.
