James Franklin and his assistants received more good news before Saturday’s Blue-White Game, as offensive lineman Antwan Reed verbally committed to Penn State's Class of 2018, ending his recruitment. He joins Virginia native Nana Asiedu as the second offensive lineman to commit to Penn State this weekend.

A four-star prospect from Muskegon, Mich., Reed earned 11 total scholarship offers. Some of the top programs included in-state schools Michigan and Michigan State, as well as Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. Both the Hokies and Wolverines proved to be Penn State’s top competitors.

Checking in at 6-foot-5, 334 pounds, Reed is expected to begin his career at right tackle. He’s taken multiple visits to Penn State dating back to last spring, the most recent of which took place in February.

“Well, I don’t like to speak for him too much, but he’s always been very impressed with Penn State," said Muskegon head coach Shane Fairfield following his visit in February. "I think the facilities there really sell themselves, as does the tradition of Penn State... I definitely know that they have made a good impression on him. Coach Franklin and his staff are top-notch, class act people. They’re very down-to-earth and very driven. Really, his whole staff is filled with good people. We’ve felt very comfortable with all of them. They’ve done a great job communicating with Antwan and all of us.

“I also think their success stands out. When we were there last year, we heard them talk about how they’re close to taking that next step, how they’re close to winning a Big Ten Championship and so on. Well, when we returned a year later, sure enough, they’ve done all that. There aren’t too many schools in the country that can actually back up the things they were saying when we visited last year, so I think that’s important. During this visit, when they were talking about taking that next step and becoming a big-time player on the national scene, you can’t help but take them serious because they’ve proven before that they mean what they say.”

Reed is a member of the Rivals250, checking in at No. 210 in the nation. He's currently No. 21 overall at offensive tackles and is the third-ranked player in Michigan.
