Penn State set to welcome another large group of early enrollees
Penn State’s next group of early enrollees is set.
Just like last year, when James Franklin and his assistants welcomed 11 scholarship players for the 2019 spring semester, the Nittany Lions will host another large number for the Class of 2020, with 10 prospects set to begin classes on Jan. 13.
On the offensive side, Penn State will welcome running back Caziah Holmes and offensive lineman Nick Dawkins, as well as two wide receivers: Jaden Dottin and KeAndre Lambert. The Nittany Lions will also welcome three defensive linemen; Cole Brevard, Fatorma Mulbah and Bryce Mostella, two defensive backs; Enzo Jennings and Joseph Johnson, as well as linebacker Tyler Elsdon.
Two notable players that aren’t among the list are junior college prospects Ji’Ayir Brown and Norval Black. Both Brown and Black still have additional credits to finish at Lackawanna College before they make the move to University Park. Current Nittany Lion safety Jaquan Brisker was also forced to stay at Lackawanna last spring before making the move in the summer.
Penn State could still potentially add one more early enrollee if the coaching staff is able to earn a commitment from its top remaining target: tight end Theo Johnson. A Rivals250 prospect from Canada, Johnson is set to enroll at the school of his choice next month. However, it’s still unclear where Johnson plans to sign. Penn State, Michigan and Iowa are believed to be the three schools he's still deciding between. Both Ricky Rahne and Tyler Bowen met with Johnson and his family Monday night. James Franklin will join those two for another in-home visit next week.
Penn State's Class of 2020 is expected to finish with either 28 or 29 players. Currently, the class is ranked 14th overall in the Rivals 2020 Team Rankings.
