Parsons Headlines Georgia State Visitor List

The Nittany Lion coaching staff will welcome a handful of top prospects to State College this weekend for its final non-conference game of the season.

Penn State isn’t expected to host a large number of prospects for its final nonconference game against Georgia State Saturday, but there are a handful of top recruits that have already confirmed that they plan to attend.

One of those players is a name all Nittany Lion fans recognize by now: five-star defensive end Micah Parsons. Originally a member of the 2018 class, the Harrisburg native decided back in April to open up his recruitment. Since then, there’s been no shortage of schools showing interest in the 6-foot-3, 240 pound defensive end.

Last weekend, Parsons used his first official visit of the season to visit Ohio State for its game against Oklahoma. Despite the result, the nation’s sixth-ranked overall prospect had good things to say about his weekend in Columbus, but there will be plenty of other visits in the months leading up to his commitment. In addition to this weekend’s trip to Penn State, which will be an unofficial visit, Parsons has one additional official visit already set, which will be to Nebraska, Oct. 7-8, for its game against Wisconsin.

As of now, many believe that the Cornhuskers and Buckeyes are PSU’s top competitors, but schools like Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and USC are just some of the schools that are also trying to get him back on campus this season or in the months leading up to signing day. Parsons’ recruitment is expected to drag out until the end of the 2018 cycle.

Class of 2019 wide receiver John Metchie is another notable prospect that’s expected to be in State College this weekend. Back in July, Metchie, who stands at 5-foot-11, 184 pounds, earned an offer from head coach James Franklin following a standout performance at the staff’s Underclassmen Showcase. As of now, the Nittany Lions appear to be an early favorite, so a solid visit this weekend could put the staff in an even better position moving forward.

“I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the atmosphere around the stadium and also how the team plays,” said Metchie, who plays at Saint James High School in Hagerstown, Md. “That’s mainly what I’m trying to see. I’ve heard a lot Happy Valley and the game day atmosphere is up there. It’s not just the game, but before the game and after the game. I know it’s always a big even there, so I just want to take it all in.”

One other notable prospect for Saturday is Class of 2020 running back Chris Tyree. Like Metchie, Tyree earned an offer from the staff following an excellent performance at one of their Elite Prospect Camps in June. Despite the fact that he’s still a sophomore, Tyree already holds nearly a dozen offers. His list includes such programs as Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
