Many are trying to get big time QB Taisun Phommachanh's attention

Taisun Phommachanh, a two-year veteran of the Rivals Camp Series, is one of the fastest rising quarterback prospects in the country. The Avon (Conn.) Avon Old Farms stand out has been pulling in offers left and right but it seems like he still has a good grasp on which schools are most interested in him.

IN HIS OWN WORDS…

“I don’t have a top five or anything like that because I need to get around to some of the places first,” Phommachanh said. “Definitely Florida State, UConn, Penn State, TCU, Virginia, and Michigan are working hard to get my attention and I talk to them on a regular basis.

“I’ve known (Florida State offensive coordinator) Walt Bell since he was at Maryland,” he said. “Getting that offer means a lot. I always wanted a big offer like that. I haven’t been down there but I’m trying to get down there this spring.

“Coach Ricky Rahne and I have a good relationship and I’ve been to Penn State a couple times,” said Phommachanh. “I talk to him a lot. I think I’d be comfortable there. I feel like I’d be going there to compete, no matter if there is another quarterback in my class or not.

“I like Michigan a lot,” he said. “I like everything coach Harbaugh does. He stopped by the school with Don Brown last month.

“I talk to the Virginia coaches a lot,” Phommachanh said. “I like what they’re doing. The coaches have been telling me a lot of about the place.

“I don’t have any visits planned but I will get down to Florida State, Clemson, and hopefully LSU this spring,” he said. “I think I’ll take one official visit this spring but I’m not sure where to just yet. If I like Florida State when I go down there this spring they could get the official visit too.

“I think the LSU offer could come pretty soon. Everybody loves LSU,” said Phommachanh. “I’ve been like that since I was a kid because of their tradition an everything they do.

“I like the Clemson coaches,” he said. “I talk to coach Streeter a lot. We’re pretty tight. He tells me about coach Swinney all the time. I feel like I would be a good fit around that. The depth chart will play a factor into my decision but I’m up to compete with whoever.

“If I really like a school and I know where I want to go, I’ll just commit,” he said. “The latest I’ll probably go is the summer.”

RIVALS’ REACTION…

Phommachanh will have a hard choice in front of him but he is making sure to do his due diligence. Florida State and Penn State have done a good job so far and they have positioned themselves well as Phommachanh heads into his spring visits. Phommachanh isn’t done picking up offers yet so his final destination is still unclear. An offer from LSU, Clemson or any number of other schools could have a drastic effect on Phommachanh’s recruitment.
