Charles, Bowen no longer with Nittany Lions

UPDATE: Penn State has provided confirmation beyond the absence of Irvin Charles and Manny Bowen for this weekend's Fiesta Bowl.

"Manny Bowen and Irvin Charles are no longer members of the Penn State football team due to a violation of team rules," the official statement read. "We appreciate their contributions to the program and wish them success in the future."

Original report: Blue White Illustrated has confirmed that Irvin Charles, a redshirt sophomore wide receiver with the Nittany Lions, has not traveled with the program to the Fiesta Bowl.

In his second season of action at Penn State, Charles played in 11 games but did not participate in the Lions' win against Nebraska due to an unspecified violation of team rules.

Following the Lions' game, head coach James Franklin did not offer much clarification, saying only that, "Irvin was not available this week, and I will leave it at that."

For the season, Charles caught just one pass for four yards, his primary impact coming for the Nittany Lions on special teams. There, he forced a fumble against Indiana midway through the season and produced seven tackles on the season.

Lions247 first reported Charles' absence from the trip.
