Report: Zwinak is No. 16

There's speed guys, combine superstars, projects, and then there's just good old fashion football players. Zach Zwinak certainly falls under the latter category.

And now, he's a Nittany Lion.

The four-star prospect told Darren J. Gendron of The Gazette that he called the Penn State staff following a win over Middletown on Friday night to make a verbal commitment to the Lions.

"It's a great school, great people, great football," Zwinak told The Gazette. "It's a relief. I can just focus on my team and the season."

He was recruited by Penn State assistant Larry Johnson, Sr. He joins Adrian Coxson as the Nittany Lions' second commitment from Maryland.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound prospect becomes the 16th member of the Nittany Lions' Class of 2010. He is the 11th four-star prospect to give a commitment in the class.

Zwinak is the nation's top fullback, according to Rivals.com. He also checks in as the country's No. 167-ranked player, and the No. 4 player in the state of Maryland's preseason rankings.

Last season, Zwinak ran for over 1,400 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior. He earned Gazette and Post player of the year honors, was second team all-metro and first team all-state in 2008. He is also a standout linebacker, leading Linganore al the way to the state finals in December.

He also sports a 3.45 grade point average.

He is the son of former Virginia Tech defensive lineman B.J. Zwinak, and chose the Nittany Lions over offers from the Hokies, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Stanford.
