Early Look: Top Southeast Pa. talent for '15

Just like the South Jersey Class of 2014, when you sit down and take an in-depth look at Southeastern Pennsylvania's Class of 2014, immediately you get the impression that this is a deeper than usual class of legitimate FBS (Division 1) prospects.

It certainly isn't hard to come up with a list of 25 FBS prospects for Southeastern Pennsylvania's Class of 2014. But, there is one major difference between the two classes.

The players in Southeastern Pennsylvania that have the best chance of ending up being rated high-4-star and possibly 5-star recruits are not members of the Class of 2014, but instead are four players from Southeastern Pennsylvania's Class of 2015.

Those four players are:

RB Josh Adams from Central Bucks South High School in Warrington,
CB/FS Asa Manley from Prep Charter High School in Philadelphia,
CB John Reid from St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia, and
OL Daniel Runyan from St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia.

Reid, specifically, has already established a national reputation and is considered, at this early stage in the recruiting process, as possibly one of the top five cornerback prospects in the country for the Class of 2015. Reid actually received his first verbal scholarship offer from Boston College when he was in eighth grade.

He is a two-time all-Philadelphia Catholic League performer and was a Pennsylvania AP first-team 4A all-state selection following the 2012 season. He lists verbal scholarship offers from Boston College, Colorado, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse, UCF, Va. Tech and Temple.

Reid has been contacted by Penn State and is being evaluated for the Nittany Lions by Penn State defensive coordinator, John Butler, and Ron Vanderlinden.

Manley probably suffers with Reid's presence. He had an outstanding 2011 season as a freshman with three interceptions and a reported 30-plus tackles. Prep Charter head football coach, Tony Beaty, said Manley had a breakout season in 2012. He was an all-City second-team performer his sophomore season (2012).

Manley was a 2A Division all-state player in 2011 on defense at his cornerback spot and was the only freshman selected to any of the three (4A, 3A or 2A) Coaches Public League all-star teams. Adams is considered by some to be the best running back to emerge from the suburban Philadelphia public leagues in at least the past five years.

In 2012, he was named an AP first-team 4A all-state performer. He rushed for 2,089 yards on 255 carries, averaging 8.13 yards per carry (ypc), 174.1 yards per game (ypg) and totaling 32 rushing TDs.

Penn State assistant coaches John Butler and Charles London have already watched Adams perform and are the two Nittany Lion assistant coaches in charge of Adams' recruitment.

Finally, if the name Runyan sounds familiar to you, it should. Daniel Runyan is the son of former Michigan AA OL and Philadelphia Eagle, Jon Runyan. Runyon presently stands 6-foot-6, 255, but is projected to be as big as his father, coming close to 290 pounds by his senior season at St. Joseph's Prep.

What is listed below is a brief biographical sketch of those who the G&W Recruiting Report believes are the top prospects in Southeastern Pennsylvania for the Class of 2014:

Rick Young (6-3, 295/DL), Souderton, Pa. - Was first-team all-area selection following the 2012 season. Will be a 3-year starter this fall. Totaled over 80 tackles. Penn State in contact.

Finally, last year in our Southeastern Pennsylvania Class of 2013 update (last February) I listed Curtis Cothran (6-5, 225) from Council Rock North High School in Newtown, Pa. as the No. 1 sleeper in SE PA for the Class of 2013.

This year that distinction goes to DE Hezekiah Trahan (6-4, 235) from Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia.

Trahan was a second team all-Catholic selection and is rated by Roman Catholic head coach, Joe McCourt, as the best player on defense he's had the privilege to coach at Roman Catholic, "Hezekiah is a definitely Division 1 (FBS) prospect." McCourt said.
