McGloin finishes with one more win
Matt McGloin won eight games in his final season with the Nittany Lions.Penn State quarterback
Monday afternoon in Springdale, Ark., McGloin won one final time as a Nittany Lion.
Named the Burlsworth Trophy winner as the 'nation's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on' by the Springdale Rotary Club, McGloin earned recognition for his efforts this past season and his career as a whole.
A fifth-year senior, McGloin leaves Penn State with the school record for career passing touchdowns with 46, along with season records for completions and attempts, passing yards and passing touchdowns.
McGloin won the award over fellow finalists, Michigan safety Jordan Kovacs and San Jose State offensive lineman David Quessenberry.
In addition to McGloin's award Monday afternoon, the Nittany Lions struck more positive publicity as head coach Bill O'Brien was named one of nine final candidates for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, presented by the Football Writers Association of America, as well as fifth-year senior center Matt Stankiewitch, who was named a Rimington Award finalist.
O'Brien's award will be announced on Dec. 13, while Stankiewitch will learn whether or not he has won the Rimington Trophy during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday night.
