2013 NJ lineman impressed with BC
Robert Mahon of Randolph (N.J.) stayed relatively quiet during the summer, aside from an impressive showing at the NUC Ultimate 100 Camp in Delaware. Now with football season here, Mahon is hoping to visit a few schools, including Boston College, which has maintained contact with the big lineman for months.2013 offensive lineman
"Recruiting is good," said Mahon. "Same old, same old, but I'm excited for September 1st when the coaches can start contacting me."
Mahon has been receiving the most early interest from in-state Rutgers, but mentioned that Boston College, Penn State and West Virginia are also showing steady interest. Up next for Mahon are a few visits.
"Well on Thursday I have the Rutgers game, but I have been having trouble contacting Penn State and BC due to our different schedules," said Mahon, who is 6-foot-5 and 305-pounds.
With BC showing Mahon steady interest since the spring, he shared his thoughts about the program.
"They're a very solid program and the offensive line coach is great," said Mahon. "All of the linemen become successful, which is a very big plus for me. During a visit I'd like to see how he takes his young linemen and turns them into some of the top rated linemen."
During his upcoming visits, he will follow the advice of one of the college coaches he has been interacting with.
"I think Greg Schiano put it to me the best way," said Mahon. "It is a marriage for four to five years. You are with these coaches and staff all the time, so you need to find people you can trust and rely on."
Finally, Mahon discussed his upcoming senior season and his off-season preparation, which he hopes leads to another state title run.
"My down field blocks have improved a lot and my pulls too," said Mahon. "I am excited to see how all of my off-season work has paid off. We are a young team, but we are busting our butts to be the best and go back to Giants Stadium."
