Mays looking at options

As a junior in 2010, Todd Mays produced his share of big plays under center for Olive Branch (Miss.) High School. The 6-foot and 215-pound Mays had 1,750 yards passing with 18 touchdowns and just three interceptions, and he also rushed for 552 yards and 10 more scores. But when spring practice rolls around, Mays expects to line up at various spots on the gridiron.

"Things have been going good and I am just focused on school and getting ready for spring ball," said Mays. "We start in about four weeks and I am just working on my speed. I've been talking to my coach a lot and he said colleges were recruiting me mainly as an athlete. So he said this year he was gonna run me more and I will also play some on defense at safety and cornerback. And I will be at running back and some receiver on offense."

While awaiting his first offer, Mays is drawing interest from several BCS schools. And while weighing his options Mays opted to attended junior day at Mississippi State and Auburn.

"I went to Auburn not long ago and it was a good trip," said Mays. "Everything was nice and that is the only trip I have taken other than going to Mississippi State's junior day. Mississippi State sends me a lot of letters and I am also getting letters from Louisville, Southern Miss, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas and Nebraska. LSU has also started sending me some letters, too."

Concerning future trips, Mays plans to make a return visit to Auburn and is eying a few summer camps.

"I am going to Auburn's spring game on April 16th," said Mays. "I am also going to a Nike combine in Athens, Ga., on April 15th and then going to Auburn the next day for their spring game. I was at Mississippi State last weekend for a track meet but they were scrimmaging at the stadium. But I plan to go back to one of their summer camps."
