2007 class follows Wannstedt recruiting trends

Dave Wannstedt and the Pitt football program announced its 2007 recruiting class on Wednesday. On his third Letter of Intent Day since taking over as the Panthers' head coach, Wannstedt announced his newest players with pride.

"We're pleased with how it unfolded for a couple reasons," Wannstedt said. "Number one, and most important we feel like we've got a solid class from top to bottom in all areas: everybody talks about the talent, but just as important with this class is the academics and the character; that's all part of building a winning program. The other positive was, all of our earlier commitments…stayed with us the entire time.

"I think we had a good day and we'll go from there."

The early commitments Wannstedt referred to primarily involved the Panthers' first two recruits, offensive lineman Chris Jacobson, who committed shortly after Signing Day 2006, and quarterback Pat Bostick, who committed in May of last year. Both players were tops at their positions in the state, and they were two of 15 total recruits in the class who originated in Pennsylvania. The Pa. numbers include LeSean McCoy and Aundre Wright, who will come to Pitt from Milford Prep in New Berlin, NY.
