D-Lineman Holding Steady

The Middle Tennessee defense has struggled to stop the run throughout the 2011 schedule. Looking to fix the issue, Middle Tennessee head coach Rick Stockstill and his staff have hit the recruiting trail hard to find some run stuffing defensive tackles.

They may have found one in Shaquille Huff. At 6'1 and 285 pounds, Huff has the size to make an impact in 2012, something that he is just fine with if that is how the situation plays out.

"I'm straight redshirting and I'll be straight playing [right away]," he told

Altogether, Huff holds offers from the Blue Raiders, Arkansas State, Buffalo, Cincinnati, and Louisville - with SEC programs Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Mississippi State all showing interest.

The versatile lineman has been able to showcase his talents across the line this season, as his team frequently switches from the 4-3 scheme to the 3-4.

Huff is enjoying the recruiting process and will be taking his first visit on Thanksgiving weekend. While the destination for his first visit is unknown, Louisville and Cincinnati are leading the charge with Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee not far behind.

"I like the Louisville staff," Huff said and continued to rave about the staffs at Cincinnati, Western Kentucky, and Middle Tennessee.

Huff is teammates with three-star defensive end Sheldon Rankins at Covington (Ga.) Eastside. The two have talked briefly about playing together in college but any talk of a package deal has been put on hold for the present, as the two look to sort out which programs are the best fit for them individually.

Huff has named Louisville as his leader at this point in the recruiting process, but he's taking his time and evaluating what each program has to offer. Ultimately, academics will play a big role in his final decision.

"I'm looking for a good atmosphere," Huff said "I'm looking for them to have a good dental program because I want to be a dentist."
