PA prospect adds Big East offers

Archbald (Pa.) Valley View linebacker Nyeem Wartman is one of the top linebackers in the Northeast and he is receiving new offers with regularity. One of those offers came a week ago from Syracuse.

"Syracuse offered me last week I can't remember the day, but I think it was Tuesday."

The offer from the Orange was a surprise, but at the same time it was not that much of a surprise Wartman said.

"I have not talked with them before that, but my coach has been talking with them."

Even though the 6-foot-3, 220 pound prospect has not talked much with Syracuse he likes what they have to offer.

"It is big conference football, the Big East. They are in a power conference and in the BCS. Right now I know more about their basketball program and how wild the Carrier Dome is," Wartman said. "I see them right now on the rise and they are very good on defense. They just need to get a more consistent offense to start rolling."

Wartman, in the past has watched Syracuse football, but it has been awhile.

"I really have not paid much attention to them lately, not since Donovan McNabb was there. I also paid a little attention to them when they got Greg Paulus."

A visit to Syracuse has not been taken at this time, but the prospect hopes to take one soon.

"I have not visited Syracuse yet, but I do plan to get out there this summer."

On the day he received his Syracuse offer the Keystone State product also received another Big East offer.

"Connecticut offered the same day as Syracuse," Wartman stated. "Connecticut is in the same situation as Syracuse. I know more about their basketball team than football. "

Other than Syracuse and Connecticut the prospect is looking to make a lot of visit this summer.

"I am going down to Florida in the summer, Boston College in the summer, and hopefully more."

A lot of the schools looking at the prospect want him to play linebacker and he now has a pretty good idea of what teams like.

"This is what I have been told that I bring to the table by people. I have solid lateral movement, I am good in the open field, I have solid athleticism, and I bring a competitive drive."

Last season Wartman was not in top shape because of injuries, but still had an awesome season.

"I had 115 tackles and 70 of them were solo."

A decision is not expected to come soon from Wartman as he is new to the whole process.

"I have no clue and since I am new to this stuff I want to get to know everybody and then narrow it down after that."
