Sleeper OL visits Ohio State

Year in and year out, the state of Ohio produces big time offensive linemen and the 2012 class is no different. Many of the Midwest's top offensive tackles for the class reside in Ohio and a few others are starting to emerge as prospects to watch during summer camp season. One such player that falls into that category is Hamilton product Adam Pankey. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound prospect was in Columbus on Saturday to watch Ohio State's spring practice.

"It was a good visit," explained Pankey. "I got to see the campus for the first time. They had a real good practice offensively."

Pankey paid extra close attention to the play of the Ohio State offensive line while at practice.

"They were pretty physical," he said. "It was good to see that from them because that's the type of player that I am. They had their schemes down real well and I got to see some of the true freshman and how they got worked in and everything."

The trip to Columbus also gave Pankey his first one-on-one interaction with members of the Ohio State coaching staff.

"I talked to my recruiting coach (John Peterson)," Pankey said. "He talked about being able to visit me two times at the school and getting to know me better and getting more of a feel for me (as a person) because I just now started talking to Ohio State."

Currently, Pankey holds a pair of offers from Mid-American Conference schools Miami (OH) and Ohio University. That number will likely increase in the near future as Ohio State and numerous other BCS conference programs have the big tackle on their radar screens.

"Wisconsin, NC State, Indiana, and Cincinnati," Pankey said, when asked which other schools are recruiting him. "Right now Wisconsin (is the favorite). I like the coaches, how they want to build a relationship with me. I call them every week so I have a conversation with them every week. When I went up there I liked the academics up there and everything else that I saw while I was there."

Pankey also took a visit to Cincinnati over the weekend to watch the Bearcats in action.

"It was good," he said. "They showed us around campus and we got to watch the team practice at Paul Brown stadium a little bit and just see where the team is at right now."

Pankey has unofficial visits setup this week with Indiana (Thursday) and Toledo (Friday) and also says he will camp at Ohio State and Wisconsin over the summer.
