Anthony Rook is feeling the Pack

Greenville (N.C.) Rose tight end Anthony Rook was in Raleigh this past weekend, touring the football facilities and watching the Pack scrimmage on Saturday afternoon. He liked what he saw and has NC State in his top three following the unofficial visit.

"We viewed the Murphy Center, the weight room, the dining hall and then went out to watch them scrimmage," the 6-foot-4, 234-pound tight end reported. "We also met with an academic [advisor] who talked about the academic part. I liked the flow of NC State, I liked the offense and it's definitely a place I would consider. I like what I saw.

"They're definitely near the top [of my list], they are definitely ahead of ECU and right there with Wake Forest. I would say they are [in my] top three, behind Wake Forest and Carolina."

Rook earned all-county and all-conference honors as a junior while leading his team with almost 400 yards receiving and six scores. Defensive line coach Keith Willis is in charge of his recruitment and the tight end was preparing to call the coach on Sunday, right before he spoke with The Wolfpacker. The rising-senior thinks Willis could be delivering him some good news in the near future.

"He told me to call him sometime [on Sunday]," Rook said. "I definitely think [an offer could be coming soon]. He said he watched my highlight tape, that it was a good film."

The rising-senior has already seen East Carolina and Wake Forest, his lone offer, in person and is also hearing from Virginia Tech, North Carolina and South Alabama. He will visit Chapel Hill next weekend. Rook hinted that an offer could help any program skyrocket near the top of his list and said that he will, "definitely" be back at NC State in the future.

Rook hoped to attend the Rivals.com/VTO Sports Elite 100 Showcase on Sunday at Mallard Creek High in Charlotte, but fell ill and had to bypass the event. The impressive athlete will get his chance to showcase his skills in the future, though, as he plans to attend a few other area combines. The 2012 prospect has previously clocked a 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds, and he also boasts impressive numbers in the weight room, including a 495 pound squat and a 300 pound bench press.

"I got sick and it didn't work out this weekend," he said. "I am going to a Nike Combine and an Under Armour Combine, I think one is in Durham and one is in Charlotte."
