McClary hoping to visit Tech

Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas cornerback Joseph McClary received an offer from the Red Raiders not too long ago, and the 2012 prospect has added another to the list.

"I recently picked up an offer from LSU," McClary said. "I've been hearing a lot from them lately. I just got done with a trip to see Florida and I've been to Miami too. The one school that is standing out to me is Texas Tech. They're probably who I'm hearing from the most right now."

McClary is being recruited by defensive backs coach Otis Mounds.

"Coach Mounds used to coach out here and he's a guy I've known for a pretty long while," he said. "He's definitely someone I trust, so I've listened and taken to heart what he's had to say."

McClary's track and field duties have kept his schedule busy this spring, preventing him from taking many visits, but that's something he's looking to change when the summer rolls around.

"I'm planning on taking a visit to Tech this summer. We'll see when it happens, but that's definitely a school I'm interested in getting out to see in person," he said. "I'm probably going to take a few more visits this summer, but I'm not sure who I'll use them on yet."

The 5-foot-10, 163-pounder has no set timetable for a decision at this point. Whenever the decision does come, however, it sounds as though Tech will be firmly in the mix.

"I'm still pretty open, but Texas Tech has most of my interest right now," McClary said. "I'm definitely looking hard at LSU and a few other schools, but Texas Tech would be my leader right now."

McClary currently holds offers from LSU and Texas Tech. He's been shown interest by Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami (Fla.), and Minnesota.
