Connecticut sophomore guard Doug Wiggins has decided to transfer, UConn coach Jim Calhoun confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

"I completely respect Doug's decision," Calhoun said in a university released statement. "He has contributed to many successes for us in his time here. We will do everything we can to help him finish school in good standing this semester and move on to a place where he will be happy. I appreciate him for the time that he was here with us and wish him the best of luck in the future."

Wiggins averaged 6.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in his sophomore season, which was marred by a two game suspension following an incident with police that involved teammate Jerome Dyson.

Wiggins came to UConn in 2006 from East Hartford High School, when Rivals.com ranked him as a four star prospect and the number 84 ranked overall prospect in his class.

He scored a season high 20 points in UConn's win over South Florida on February 16th, but did not reach double figures in any of UConn's final eight games.

If Wiggins transfers to another Division I program, he will be required to sit out next season and will then have two final years of eligibility.
