April 4, 2008Inclement weather forced the Alabama football team indoors Friday, holding its ninth spring practice in the Hank Crisp Athletic Facility. Working in shells (helmets, shoulder pads and shorts), the Crimson Tide went through final preparations for Saturday's scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
A few notables from practice:
*** Baron Huber and Brian Motley continued to work at new positions, Huber at linebacker and Motley on the offensive line. Coach Nick Saban stressed on Wednesday that neither move was permanent and called both "experiments." Huber had been working at fullback, where he was a reserve last season. Motley, who is unable to participate in contact work because of an injury, had been at noseguard.
*** During the media's viewing period, defensive backs Chris Rogers, Ali Sharrief, Sam Burnthall and Marquis Johnson worked with the second group. The first group - Javier Arenas, Kareem Jackson, Rashad Johnson and Justin Woodall - hasn't appeared to change since spring drills began.
*** Players designated non-contact with injuries included Motley, defensive end Milton Talbert, receiver Nikita Stover, cornerback Lionel Mitchell, offensive lineman Patrick Crump and running back Glen Coffee. Stover was the only one among that group working on a stationary bike. The rest participated in individual drills with their position groups.
*** Alabama's scrimmage Saturday, set to start at 1:30 p.m., is closed to the public. Saban will address the media following the scrimmage.
