Just one day before UConn is set to take on No. 7 Indiana in their biggest non-conference road game of the season, two Huskies did not make the trip.

Head coach Jim Calhoun announced Friday upon arrival in Bloomington, Ind. that sophomore guards Jerome Dyson and Doug Wiggins were suspended from the team for an unspecified violation of team rules and did not make the trip.

"This particular suspension is mine, no one else's," Calhoun told reporters gathered at the team hotel. "I took the action based upon what I felt was in the best interest of our basketball team and the university."

The head coach did specify that the violation was not due to a legal matter, nor did it have to do with the players' grades. The spring semester began at the university Tuesday.

Dyson started all 18 of the Huskies' games this season and is averaging 14.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while leading the team with 36 steals. Wiggins, who is averaging 6.6 points in a reserve role, is second on the team with 48 assists.

The loss of both guards greatly hampers the Huskies' offense against Indiana, a guard-heavy team that prefers the ball and is lethal from the perimeter. It appears likely that Craig Austrie will start the game at point guard, moving current starter A.J. Price to shooting guard.

Austrie led the Huskies to an 11-0 start as a true freshman in the wake of a suspension to then-starter Marcus Williams and has stepped up his effort on offense in recent weeks. Price, who is averaging 14 points per game, is shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from 3-point range.

It is unknown whether either player will rejoin the team when the Huskies return to Hartford to play Louisville Monday night.
