Just a week after the revelation that wideout Devon Smith's career with the Nittany Lions had ended, Friday brought more troubling news.

Derrick Thomas' rocky career of on and off the field problems has also come to a close.

Penn State spokesperson Jeff Nelson revealed the news Friday afternoon via Twitter.

"#PennState Coach Bill O'Brien has announced junior CB Derrick Thomas has left the team for personal reasons," the tweet said.

A redshirt junior, Thomas was expected to provide depth for the Nittany Lions at cornerback, if not even challenge for a starting position opposite Stephon Morris this preseason. Thomas, Smith, Curtis Drake and Shawn Oakman have all been removed from the Lions' roster this offseason.
