Sunshine State speedster commits to CSU

The Colorado State football team got a little faster Monday night with the news Orlando Dr. Phillips High School running back Marvin Fordcommitted to Colorado State. Ford is a 5-foot-9, 185-pound back with 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash.

"I committed about an hour ago," Ford said Monday night. "I called Coach Fairchild. He said we've got ourselves a running back. Everybody was telling me I should go (to CSU). I really like Nico (former Dr. Phillips quarterback and current CSU signalcaller Nico Raineri) and the coaches out there. Everyone out there is really nice and I like the fans and the town's spirit."

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Ford has rushed for 159 yards on 42 carries this season. He has also caught three passes for 19 yards for the undefeated Panthers.

Ford visited Colorado State, along with teammates Marquis Hood and Charles Favors in Sept. and came away with a very strong impression of the school.

"It was nice," Ford said of his visit."It was beautiful down there. I love it down there. It wasn't too hot, it wasn't too cold then. I know it will, but I liked it."

Ford said he was excited to get his decision made and said he had not yet told Raineri, but knew he would shortly. Ford did mention his calls to Hood and Favors, both of whom have been targeted by the Colorado State coaching staff.

"They were like they are going to commit next," Ford said of Hood and Favors.

Ford carries a 3.2 grade-point average and plans on majoring in sports management. He will re-take his SAT's in November. On the field, Ford said he is a better player this year after working on his speed and footwork.

One thing he won't have to work on is his interviews. When asked what Colorado State fans will say when watching him on the field, Ford quipped, "Whoa.... He's fast. That is all they are going to say. I can block good, I am fast and I can make someone miss, but the first thing they are going to say is, whoa. He's fast."
