A shoe-in for Auburn's Davis
Tristan Davis was just looking for the right fit. And he found it just in time.
Davis, who has broken his foot twice in the last couple of years, couldn't find an Under Armour cleat that fit correctly so he switched back to a New Balance two weeks ago.
"It's a big difference," Davis said. "UA doesn't make an EE shoe. With all the alterations to my foot, I needed a wider shoe. That's what it all came down to.
"I have screws on the outside (of my foot), so I need extra space and support on the outside."
The switch paid quick dividends after Davis returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown against Arkansas. His 182 kickoff return yards against the Hawgs set an AU single-game record.
Davis was one of the first player mentioned by West Virginia head coach Bill Stewart when talking about Thursday night's showdown in Morgantown.
