Notebook: Cox gets into the action
There were several long passes and some good runs in Auburn's scrimmage Saturday, but the play that brought the most oohs and ahhs from the 500 fans in attendance turned out to be a block.
And the big block came from the most unlikely of sources - quarterback Brandon Cox.
The play started as an end around to receiver Montez Billings who started left and then reversed his field to the right. Defensive end Quentin Groves was in hot pursuit as Billings changed direction.
But just when Groves thought he was closing in for a tackle-for-loss, Cox cut his legs and put Groves on the ground. To add insult to injury, Cox flopped on top of Groves to finish the play.
Groves was at a bit of a disadvantage even though he outweighs Cox by about 45 pounds.
