Juniors lead way in handling of Marquette
February 11, 2007 - There was grumbling earlier this season in the Hoya Nation that two of the three junior leaders on Coach John Thompson's Georgetown team - Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert - had not played great in the same game, nor did they lead the way to a signature win.
Those ideas must be scuttled now as both frontcourt players dominated in G'Town's 76-58 win in front of 17,867 at D.C.'s Verizon Center.
Hibbert was good for 23 points, 11 rebounds (four offensive), three blocks and one steal on a day when he exceeded every one of his averages in those statistical categories. All of this was done in a season-high 35 minutes.
The Hoyas were intent on establishing him early offensively as Hibbert scored the team's first three points and 10 in the first half, converting 4-of-9 shots. For the game, he shot 7-of-12 from the field, and an excellent 9-of-11 from the free throw line.
"I thought Roy did a terrific job of persuing the ball and going after rebounds," Thompson said.
