Key Matchups: Central Florida
Without question, this Saturday's game against Central Florida (UCF) at Beaver Stadium at 6 PM will be the Nittany Lions' most difficult non-conference game on its schedule.
UCF is coming off of a 10-4 season that ended with a 38-14 win over Ball State in the "Beef 'O' Brady" bowl game.
The Knights are led by redshirt junior quarterback Blake Bortles (6-4, 230) who is considered by some NFL draft analysts as no later than a 3rd round draft choice in the upcoming 2014 NFL draft that will take place in early-May 2014.
Bortles, in the first two games this season, has completed 30 of 43 passes for 528 yards, four TDs and zero interceptions.
As impressive as those statistics are, even more impressive is the fact Bortles has not thrown an interception in his last 211 pass attempts.
Despite the fact Bortles and the Knights' four wide receivers - juniors J.J. Worton, Breshad Perriman and Rannell Hall plus senior Jeff Godfrey - are the No. 1 strength of UCF's offense, the Knights' head football coach, George O'Leary, has instituted a run first / pass second philosophy in its opening two games against Akron and Florida International.
